Where do the Pool Table, Snooker Table and Table Tennis Table belong within the fitness equipment heading? Surely we cannot class these pastime sports as fitness equipment! Can a pool table, snooker table or table tennis table be perceived of in the same way as the traditional fitequipment.co.uk equipment; treadmill, cross-trainer, exercise bike, rowing machine and multi gym? Maybe not, but if you marched around a championship match-play snooker table or pool table for a few hours you will zap off hundreds of calories, (approx 170 calories per hour based on 150lb individual). Not the same kind of workout you would get from the traditional fitness equipment. Completely diverse muscle groups located and for completely diverse results. An hour using a table tennis table at a leisurely movement would zap off approximately 220 calories, at a professional level this could be multiplied by three or four! Have you viewed the movement of the professional table tennis player and the speed they get around the table tennis table! No wonder you don’t notice many overweight table tennis professionals! Not the conventional fitness equipment you would expect! OK, so maybe these recreational hobbies belong in the games room of the fitness equipment establishment. Pool tables and snooker tables have been in pubs and clubs for countless years. The pool table and snooker table even have their own devoted clubs up and down the land.
We are now beginning to noticee the table tennis table rising as the “in-thing” around the pubs, clubs and Games Room. The table tennis phenomenon is starting, ping pong and a pint is on the menu. Not sure whether the leisurely pace will zap off the pints consumed but any form of “fitness equipment” has got to be better than nothing. So, the pool table, snooker table and table tennis table may not really be classed as fitness equipment in the real sense of the word (unless you are a table tennis professional) but it is equipment that can keep you dynamic. You can burn many calories using a snooker table, pool table and table tennis table whilst playing a game you like without even noticing the fitness benefits it brings. If you are lucky enough to own/use a pool table, snooker table or table tennis table and you want to increase your leisurely mode to a proper Fitness Equipment routine, try adding some wrist weights or ankle weights to your exercise day. The games room may get even closer to the fitness equipment room in the future! Farooq Hussain Shah is an Independent FitEquipment.co.uk reviewer
